We are making ice with the cold temps! Red Lake we are finding 12-16 inches. Annandale area 5-7 inches. I will be checking ice over the next few days with more updates. We plan on moving the big wheel houses out in the Annandale area around the January 15th. We currently have a two man sleeper out in the Annandale area and three rentals on Upper Red Lake. The bite on Upper Red Lake has been fantastic. They guys are catching them in this cold front as this report is being typed. -15 and fish still being caught! I pre fished before the last customers checked in and caught over 45 walleyes on this spot we are on within a 24 hour time frame. Call to book your rental today before we book up! The photo is a two man limit from Upper Red Lake.

I was on Upper Red Lake with a few rentals over new years and we had some success once we got out into 12-13 Feet of water. The bite was not as good in 9 feet of water. Ice conditions we found 10-15 inches of ice. In the Annandale area I am finding 4-7 inches of ice depending on what lake. I do have the 2 person sleeper house ready for customers. The fishing in the Annandale area has been excellent! Call to reserve a rental! We have houses ready to go on Red Lake for the next few weeks and then possibly Lake of the woods also. We have had a warm fall and this has made for some great fall fishing! I have been fishing the Crow River and doing some shore fishing on a few of the lakes in the Annandale area. The water temperature was 45 degrees about 8 degrees warmer than last year around this time. The forecast in the next few days is going to cause the water temperature to drop fast with lows down to 20 degrees. I suspect we will be making ice in two weeks. The walleyes have been in the shallows 2-3 feet at night. Waders have been the ticket using floating raps out on the lake. In the river I have been using 1/16 ounce bright orange greenish jigs with a tiger colored ripple shad. Caught a few limits on the River in the holes 5-6 feet deep around the bends. Caught a few nice northerns also.

Sorry it’s been awhile since I have posted an update my wife and I had our third child and we had a boy! I now have two girls and a 3/week old. Tonight is his second night in the fish house! My wife lets me do overnights as long as I take Levi! Heck why not forced air furnace walleye fishing and give Levi a bottle check lines stare at vex for 30 minutes then nap time!! Then repeat!! I am trying to catch up on the fishing it’s been a little slower the last two weeks but we are still getting them. The bite is picking up! I am going to keep it short and just post some pics from the last three weeks!

The cold weather sure is making some Ice. Everywhere I have been I have been seeing 12-14 inches of Ice. We have been fishing several lakes. After the rain and warm temps over Christmas we lost few inches but now have it back. This made the crappie bite really light on some of my spots I believe they scattered when we had the warm temps. I am fishing more shallow lately 8 FOW shallowest. The deepest 18 FOW. I was in 24 FOW but only found smaller fish crappies. The crappie bite has picked up! The northern pike have been very active this season. The crappies have been biting mostly after dark. Here are a few pics from the last few days! Call today to reserve your rental. 320-310-9089

We are moving houses back out as the Ice heals up! I am finding anywhere from 8-12 inches of ice on spots that I have been fishing. I know of spots that only have around 5-6 inches. We lost some ice the past two weekends but should be gaining an inch a day over the next few cold days. The Ice varies a lot this year on every lake i have been on. I have customers coming in for a 2 day rental Sunday so fresh reports coming in soon. One of our fishing spots has had a great crappie bite along with the pike have been running. Tip ups have been a lot of fun. We have been catching a few walleyes locally also. The hook up and go rentals have been to Red Lake and Winnie and there reports came back with Walleye and Jumbos. This week we will be targeting walleye and Crappies. I did catch and release a 36 inch pike on Saturday. I also heard of another guy locally spearing a 44 inch pike! The guys who speared in our spear houses have been getting 2-4 pound pike. we do have one man spear houses for $40 half day. This house can also be used for angling.

I have been busy building our new 2-3 man fish house and should be done with it Wednesday. This house will be rented for $100/2 people $150 for 3 people. We have been making ice although warmer temps this weekend all 8 x 16 rentals will be contingent upon ice conditions and weather! The small houses will be out on the ice this weekend. I currently have one Ice Castle sitting on 13 inches of ice off a weed line and sand bottom. I fished it for a couple hours picked up a 20 inch walleye couple sunfish and one crappie and lots of small pike. I do believe this spot should produce more walleye so we will see what it brings the next 48 hours. The walleye was caught on a Green glow Forage Minnow tipped with a fat head minnow. I had a few misses due the fact I was installing a radio in the fish house. Check back soon for more active fishing reports as we are moving fish houses on the ice! Remember the 2014 Ice Castle Mile lacs is available for Red Lake trips and Hook up and go rentals! Please be safe on the ice on 11/30/2014 I was on Clearwater and was finding consistency in the ice of 7 inches on up to 13 inches and until I got on the north end of Bungalow island and found open water along with 3.5 inches of ice! Lakes are going to vary always check the ice consistently before towing wheel houses out! I use a Ranger or a Small blazer for towing houses out onto early ice!

Today I went out in search of some crappies! I found 6 inches of ice. I started in shallow and worked out to 26ft on my first spot. I ended up on a few crappies and sun fish that would not bite so then I decided to move on to a different spot on the lake. I augured around 30 holes until I marked fish. I set up and could not get them to bite. It was now late morning around 10:30 a.m. so I was thinking they might of shut down. I got out of the portable and did some hole hoping and about 8 ft. from my portable found a hot hole that produced. Crappies ranged from 8.5 inches up to 13 inches. 2 of the small crappies would not swim back so they ended up in the bucket. I will be heading out tonight again tonight to try get some video footage and see how the prime time bite is.
